Another form of alternative fuel used to power eco friendlier cars is clean diesel, generically known as ULSD. TDI Clean Diesel from Volkswagen, and used in the Jetta models, is apparently a cleaner burning diesel because of the low-sulfur composition that contains as much as ninety-seven percent less sulfur. This in turn dramatically changes the amount of emissions that are present while driving the Jetta. As a result, the diesel is said to reduce a whopping ninety-five percent of total emissions. TDI stands for “turbo charged direct injection”.

The TDI Clean Diesel Jetta comes in two models, a standard four-door sedan and the wagon version. Of course, VW has always been known for its fuel efficient vehicles from the little Bug to the family oriented suite of cars such as the Jetta.

VW has also been associated with being the first diesel operated family vehicle. Although VW strove to produce fuel efficient cars and more socially responsible fuels, in fact introducing the ECO-DIESEL Jetta in 1991, many negatives in the minds of the public still followed the use of diesel in regular passenger vehicles. But by creating this newest form of diesel, more people should be interested in the Jetta.

Like other car manufacturers trying to dispel myths regarding alternative fuels, the company claims that cleaner diesel is actually more powerful in torquing than traditional gas. Again performance is not compromised by driving vehicles independent of gasoline. And for those living in countries whose governments accept the vehicles as viable alternatives to gas guzzling, smog producing cars and trucks, substantial tax credits and benefits exist.
