Market crunch may have delayed the production of the Model S by the electric car manufacturer Tesla until 2011 but recent photos in a BusinessWeek article reveals how it is as it cooks on a prototype phase.

The auto industry is still buzzing about the Tesla Model S. Everyone is still waiting if it will really look bulkier than its competitor Fisker Karma. The car is expected to debut next March in the Geneva Motor Show.

According to Tesla officials, the Model S will rule the market. It is said to be designed to compete against Blue Tec E Class of Mercedes Benz, Chevrolet Volt, and the GS450h of Lexus.

The technical specifications are still kept secret by the manufacturer but they boast that the Model S will be an electric vehicle that doesn’t drive like a golf cart. The car should be accelerating to 60 mph in 5 seconds with drivers enjoying super handling quality from its Lotus Elise chassis.

The car previously known as the “Whitestar” will be a 4-door sedan with a capacity of carrying 5 passengers. A single charge is expected to run 240 miles without any emission. The initial priced was revealed at $60000.

Model S will be built in the Silicon Valley factory to be built by Tesla in summer of 2009. The $250 million facility will be designed to manufacture non-emission cars and house the corporate office of Tesla.

Tesla is known for producing the Roadster which has been receiving good reviews resulting to a long line of orders keeping the momentum of the company amid the financial crisis around the globe.
